Educational Background and Training
A native of Scotland, Dr. Grant earned his medical degree from St Andrews University, in 1999. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Aberdeen, followed by a second residency in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery in Bristol, England.
In 2009, he advanced his specialization with a prestigious postgraduate fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston—one of the world’s leading cancer centers. Dr. Grant is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has passed the Royal Colleges of Surgery Intercollegiate Board Examination in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery.
Clinical and Academic Appointments
Dr. Grant began his practice at Queens Medical Centre in the United Kingdom in 2012, where he focused on head and neck cancer surgery. In 2019, he joined the faculty at the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education, College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM).
With ARCOM’s support, Dr. Grant established Mercy Clinic Head and Neck Surgery in Mercy Clinic Fort Smith. He now works alongside his wife, Dr. Stephanie Koonce, who is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and native of the River Valley.
Research and Publications
Dr. Grant’s passion for research and education is evident throughout his career. In 2005, he was appointed as the first Mayo Clinic James and Martha Crawford Foundation Clinical Research Fellow in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. His scholarly contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters such as:
